Checking in! A brief summary of the trip so far: We left camp early Tuesday morning for Friday Harbor to clear Customs. After the easiest clearance I’ve ever been a part of, we headed for Bedwell Harbor on South Pender Island to clear Canadian Customs. We sailed almost all the way! The campers and staff were ecstatic. Wind died right at the border, so we motored the last couple of miles. We left Bedwell Harbor on Wednesday morning at 0900 and in the best sailing day of my 20 year career, we covered 43 nautical miles from Bedwell to Nanaimo. We sailed 7.5 hours nonstop with the wind behind us and tide in our favor. I was dumbfounded. We spent the night anchored at Newcastle Island and Nanaimo on Thursday. The campers loved wandering the town, as well as the music and art market in the evening. This morning was extremely windy so we waited to leave till it died down a bit. We caught the last bit of wind out of Departure Bay and motor sailed across the Straits of Georgia to Pender Harbor on the Sunshine Coast. Tomorrow morning we head for Princess Louisa Inlet, the jewel in the crown of British Columbia. The weather is perfect, campers are having a blast and the food is amazing. We’ll get back to you when we leave Princess Louisa!
