Activity Areas

In addition to being a counselor, you will also be teaching in one of the following activity areas.

Barn

We have a beautiful, fully-equipped barn and an excellent riding program at camp, but we always need a talented, fun, hard-working group of staff to make the program a success. If you have experience in English and/or Western riding, grooming, stable and tack maintenance, and are great at teaching riding skills to kids, we'd love to have you work with us in the barn program. Both ring and trail skills are helpful, and any additional experiences teaching kids and working with horses and other animals is a plus!

Garden

One of the favorite places in camp for everyone, the garden is a great place to spend the afternoon, and a popular place for overnight sleepouts. To work in the garden program, you'll have experience in garden maintenance, cooking, arts and crafts instruction, familiarity with variety of flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables. You'll teach kids about gardening and create crafts projects, make fruit smoothies and milkshakes, and have the freedom to create your own garden activities.

Dock

Our dock is well-equipped with rowboats, kayaks, canoes; lazer, lightning, and FJ sailboats, two powered fishing boats, and a variety of other watercraft. If you love being in and around the water, we can use you on the dock! Here's an outline of some of the positions we're looking to fill:

Sailing: Teach kids the basics of sailing, including rigging the boats, manuevering around the docks, and openwater sailing. Our classes offer basic introduction to sailing to sail racing and advanced techniques. Training in dinghy sailing is required; racing, cruising and teaching experience are helpful; knowledge of tides and currents, as well as knowledge of boat maintenance, is also a plus. Safety is of utmost importance, and you should be patient and great with kids, too! Lifeguard training is preferred.

Canoeing: Do you have experience in a canoe? We teach kids the basic strokes and handling of canoes, canoe safety, and skills they need to safely canoe on their trips out of camp. Practiced knowledge of all strokes and safety procedures is required; flat water teaching is helpful. Lifeguard training is preferred.

Fishing: We take kids out in our two powered fishing boats to catch rockfish, ling cod, flounder, kelp greenling, dogfish, and whatever else is biting! Salt-water fishing and tackle experience is a big plus, and power boat driving experience is needed. Since you'll be on the water away from camp, lifeguard training is required.

Arts and Crafts

We have so many activities on the crafts courts that we can't even begin to describe them all! We're looking for motovated instructors to teach our crafts classes and bring along some fresh ideas for our campers. Here's just a few of the areas we need instructors for:

Poetry: You'll need the ability to motivate and instruct campers to write and present poetry, songs and stories. Our campers are very creative and poetry is a great opportunity to explore this creativity with them.

General Crafts: Do you have experience with paper-making, paper arts, painting, drawing and/or bookbinding? Can you motovate and inspire kids to create something they'll be proud to take home? Bring along your new ideas!

Pottery: You're not afraid to get a little clay on you, right? We need your pottery skills on the crafts courts to teach kids to make mugs, bowls, and who know what else! Teaching experience in throwing pots and creating hand-constructed ware is required, and kiln loading and glazing skills are also needed.

Drama: We're not going to ask to you chop down the largest tree in the forest with a herring, but we do need someone who can teach and inspire kids to write and perform their own skits, scenes, and plays at camp! You'll have the opportunity to produce a play and present it to the camp each session, and have the freedom to taylor your classes to the kids who participate. Experience assisting children in producing, writing, and improvising dramatic productions is necessary.

Woodcarving:
We have some great woodcarvings created at camp, and some great tools to help create them! Teach kids to make their own benches, bowls, totem poles, or ??? You should have some familiarity with woodcarving tools and their care, and experience in safety, design and carving techniques is needed.

Fiber Arts: Do you have experience with carding, spinning, weaving and knitting? How about experience felt making? If so, join us in teaching these and other 'fiber arts' to our campers this summer!

Photography: Good with a camera? Do you know how to load bulk film, develop film and prints, and use an enlarger? If so, we'd love to have you help teach our photography program this summer. Teach kids about photo composition, 35mm camera operation, and how to create great prints in our darkroom. You should have this experience yourself, be passionate about photography, and ready to have fun!

Sports

We have some great athletes coming to camp this summer, and we're looking for some fun, experienced, energetic counselors to challange them! Our landsports program includes tennis, soccer, archery, ultimate frisbee, basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, conditioning, and more. Instructors are responsible for daily lesson plans, individual instruction, and care of our equipment. Staff should also comfortable in promoting cooperation over competition, so all kids can enjoy the sports, regardless of their skill level.
